Rent a Nissan Micra at Europcar
"The Nissan March, or Micra, is a car of the superminis category, produced by Nissan. In the late seventies, Nissan was planning to expand its range by producing a compact car to counter the success of one of its biggest competitors, Toyota.
Osamu Ito, an engineer who had worked for Prince, was appointed head of project. The goal was to create an economical car, easy to drive and attractive, with enough space to accommodate four adults. In October 1981, after 3 years of engineering research, a working prototype was presented at the 24th Tokyo Motor Show. The public discovered an engaging car, very well thought-out, housing, under its bonnet, a small 1.0-litre front-wheel-drive engine.
They came up with an original initiative : as soon as the show ended, Nissan launched a huge national campaign asking the Japanese to choose a name for this new car themselves. This triggered a craze. For three months, suggestions arrived in their thousands. After deliberating, Nissan decided on a punchy name : March."
